If a tree falls in the woods… keep looking up

Recently, I was out on a hike with some friends who were determined to get to the top of a mountain.  Trail markers were posted along the trail up on the tree trunks.

The person in front of our group was only watching the ground and didn’t notice that there were no more trail markers .  I spoke up about being off course, but they were convinced that the trail wasn’t well marked and we were still on the path to get up to the top of the mountain.  After going further, we ran out of trail.

We backtracked and found the problem.  A tree had been uprooted and we didn’t realize that it had fallen across the trail.  Had the person in front been looking for the markers, we wouldn’t have gotten so far off course.

Sometimes major events happen in our life that can knock us off course if we’re not careful to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.  God gives us promises and truths in the Bible that we need to keep focused on.  If we lose sight of what God’s word says, we’ll think we’re doing the right things only to realize later that we’ve gotten into a mess.

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” Proverbs 16:25

Christ-follower, don’t let those fallen trees in life keep you from looking to God’s word.  In it we find life and truth for facing the issues we struggle with everyday.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.”  John 14:6
