Always Sore

I woke up this morning and felt it again…  sore arms, sore legs.  When I continue to work hard at running, biking, blah blah blah, the aches and pains never leave.  They just travel around to new places and are a continuing reminder that recovery needs to take place.  It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out, just an amateur or a 3-time Ironman World Champion like Chrissie Wellington.

Athletes are over in Kona, Hawaii right now getting ready for this year’s big Ironman event.  Chrissie Wellington tweeted the other day:

“chrissiesmiles – If taper time starts now can somebody please tell @DaveScott6x (her coach). I cant move my arms after that swim session!”

You never “arrive”.  The only way to stop being sore is to stop pushing yourself.  This is true in every aspect of life.  As long as you keep pushing forward, continue growing and learning, you will be sore all the time.  It’s part of making yourself better.

So during the next year, I’m going to start practicing the art of tapering for other areas of my life besides just triathlons.  Intentionally being fresh for the event.  I’ll be talking more about what this actually means.  Stay tuned…
